On my last day of a trip to Sri Lanka, I found myself wandering around Galle Fort. I had only a few frames left in my C3 and lost in my own thoughts. This little girl caught my eye and Dad was trying to teach her to say hello. I raised my camera towards them and waited for him to give me the nod of approval which he happily did.
Shooting Sunny 16 and in lowish light I ended up underexposing a little but such is the forgiving nature B&W film, Acros in particular, that I was able to extract an exposure that I am satisfied with.
Her smile, the gesture of her arms, the simple composition, and the light are what make this image for me. He was curious about the camera. I don't think people in Sri Lanka see too many tourists with old TLR's!
The warm nature of the Sri Lankan people means that if you ask politely you will seldom be refused the opportunity to make a photograph of somebody!
