Making photos has always been a way for me to express my artistic influence from cinema. Usually the types of photos I take at a particular moment in time can be attributed to what kind of films I’m watching. This particular photograph was heavily inspired by the French New Wave.
My friend Melissa (who styled and modeled for this shoot) and I had planned to do this shoot in the countryside. I loaded up my trusty Contax T2 with Portra 400 the night before and watched the movie Breathless. When I woke up that morning and looked outside, I could only see thick fog.
At first I was a bit hesitant to shoot in these conditions but as we were driving through the countryside it was clear that the fog added a beautiful mood and minimalism to the scene. This photo wouldn’t have the same effect without it
