This particular photo is my favorite portrait of my one-eyed boxer boy Gus. It shows him during a rare quiet time with one of his toys close by.
We rescued Gus in April of 2010. He was orphaned at birth and was one of two survivors in the litter. The first few weeks of his life were tough. An infection caused blindness in his left eye and he was slow to gain weight and strength. But, by the time we took him home at 7 weeks, he was strong and playful and obsessed with his toys.
We lost Gus on January 26th, 2017 to lymphoma. It happened while we were away from home, working in Vancouver, BC. As soon as we are back in Southern California I plan on making a print of this negative to hang in my office.
I am glad that I have this memory of him.
