This is a story about overcoming my fears!
I did something I would never have thought possible. I am notably shy and even though I love street photography / portraits I am afraid to engage people directly in the streets.
But now I think I found an antidote, a kick-starter to boost my confidence. I participate in a televised photo contest and one challenge involved doing just that. So I had no choice, really.
The guy was sitting by a storefront, basking in a timid winter sun, nursing his beer. I went up to him, started conversation and though he is Luxembourgish he insisted on speaking French to me. We had a nice time, exchanged some words and he tried to make me understand without saying so that his beer was running out.
This experience and a good dozen more like them on that day was really something that helped me over my fear.
I like the play of the low sun on his weathered face. He was happy being there in the sun watching the crowd. Just enjoying!
