Over the last year or so, I’ve been putting together an image-based project called, "A Day in the Life of a…". It's a project focusing on individuals who live and work by the coast. A very diverse collection of people. The guy in the shot is one such individual. Matt is a third-generation master upholsterer; old school you might say with real skills and a genuine nice guy.
I know Matt well, where he works out of and the kind of finish I was looking for within the shoot. So the choice of film was easy. It had to be black & white. I shoot very little black & white but I did have a roll of expired Kodak 400 Tmax in the fridge. I film Id never shot before for the simple reason I prefer Ilford films. however, I thought Id it a go
So, I shot the roll, got it back and then viewed the results. If Im honest, I was quite pleased. I often look at at image then come back to it, then maybe view it again. It was only when I did that I noticed the subliminal message/link. Given that I liked the idea of placing the "Rocky" poster within the image just because it was random I didn't then see Matts hand in the position it was it. pushed into the arm of the chair he was repairing and giving the impression that he had a boxing glove on. Do you see it now?
