My friend, Nick, encourages me to explore the city with him, I've been shooting with film for over a year now due to his influence. This picture was made after stressful day at work and we went out together to blow off some steam. While walking the streets we would look for compositions or other areas of interest to photograph.
That being said what I love about this image is that it wasn't planned at all. I saw the bird, raised my camera, and made the image. The blend of an interesting background matched with my friends expression about the pigeon came together better than I would have hoped.
I love learning the art or the technical bits of photography, but to me, I feel that a good image shouldn't always be dominated by the methodical ideas of perfection. I find that honest expressions of life exist in places or in feelings that don't match ideals that some would prefer.
Disciplining myself to see that expression and be ready for the moment is the challenge of photography to me.
