I'm an aspiring photographer who is passionate about working film into my everyday routine and life. I'm a student at West Point and develop in my sink at the moment.
The subject here is a long time friend of my brother, Danny. They've know each other since they were three or four and I've seen them both grow up over the past 14 years or so. They’re both 18 now and have just started college this year.
I made this image at Danny's bands last gig before all them split ways before their first semester of college. They had been playing together for years, just released their first LP and were quickly becoming local legends.
The band, Sonic Blume, is really passionate about analog photography and recording like all of us and so when they asked me to cover their last show, I was thrilled! We all come from Asbury Park which is really the last enclave on the shore of classic analog culture and music recording. For them, having their music recorded analog rather then digital is as easy a choice as film is for the kind of photographer that I want to be. This was my first real shot at using film for a serious shoot where I couldn't afford to make mistakes. I usually bring my digital and snap some shots in case I mess the roll up, but this time I just trusted my camera and my eye.
